Kingdom waiting

Matthew 25.1-13

Living every day as first and last

Week 4 of 6

Six weeks in which we recognise the urgency of the gospel message, reading Matthew’s uncompromising words as we approach the celebration of Christ the King.

Kingdom waiting

The organisation of the lectionary moves us forward today, to the chapter preceding Jesus’ Passion. The narrative increases its pace and we are urged to be ready and prepared. Our reading of 1 Thessalonians fast-forwards too, as Paul writes of the coming of the Lord.

This week’s readings, 1 Thessalonians 4.13-18 and Matthew 25.1-13, provide an opportunity to:

  • recognise that the way we imagine the future shapes the way we live now (AAA & CYP)
  • consider what it means to wait actively (AAA & CYP)
  • explore what it means to be wise and to be foolish. (AAA & CYP)
