Confident in God and ready for anything?
1 Samuel 17:(1a,4-11, 19-23),32-49The Israelite army, led by Saul, is challenged by one huge, mighty Philistine warrior. They flee in terror, but a lowly shepherd boy, David, is confident that God will fight with him. Refusing conventional armour, he confronts the giant enemy with five stones and a sling.
As we hear the familiar story of David and Goliath, we investigate the secret of David’s extraordinary success: he trusts in God, and he makes use of his God-given resources – the tools of his familiar trade. If we have confidence in God, God will use us and all he has given us.
