A promise made real
John 1.(1-9),10-18We hear again the famous prologue to John’s Gospel. Jesus is the Word by whom God created the world in the beginning. He existed before John the Baptist, whose role is to point towards Jesus, the Word made flesh, as the true light.
This week’s Gospel proclaims a promise made real – the long-awaited light ‘was coming into the world’. However, it also suggests there is more work to do too. We may have seen the light, but many have not: for them the promise remains unrealised.
