Epiphany

Matthew 2.1-12

Journeying with faith

The Magi arrive too late for Christmas when it is celebrated in the West; however in the Orthodox world they are on time because today is their Christmas Day. The Magi have been travelling on their journey west following the star and really they shouldn't be part of our traditional crib scenes until 6 January. These Magi are outsiders to Israel and yet they recognise something that the insiders have missed. They pay homage to something they only partly understand but in so doing are coming closer to the truth than those who have 'the Law and the Prophets'. God reveals the mystery of the incarnation to genuine seekers and to those who go on seeking.
