Epiphany 1

Isaiah 43.1-7

Context

We leave behind the child Jesus and meet Jesus the man, at the beginning of his public ministry. Epiphany means ‘revelatory manifestation’. Today is the second of our three encounters with such revelations of Jesus’ identity.

Common thread – Called by name (Isaiah 43.1-7 and Luke 3.15-17,21-22)

Just as Jesus was named and declared as God’s son, so too we celebrate our naming and claiming as children of God.

An alternative thread for adults, Just the beginning, is drawn from Acts 8.14-17.

These resources were first published in Issue 45 January/February 2010.
