At Pentecost we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit, specifically to the disciples of Jesus as described in today’s reading from Acts, but then to us all. Today we are concentrating on the nature of the Spirit’s gifts, by reading from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians.
Spiritual gifts can be a rather intimidating idea, particularly when they are called up to justify particular actions or perspectives. Today we discover that they are real gifts to us from God but we must determine whether they are supernatural flights of fancy or tools for gritty service.
An alternative thread, What kind of power?, draws on Acts 2.1-21.
