By coincidence, as we begin a new month and a new school year, the lectionary propels us forward through Matthew’s Gospel, from chapters 18 to 23, beginning a series of practical teachings on skills for living.
Matthew gets to grips with the nitty-gritty of life, the day-to-day problems that arise in all communities. He addresses the ‘how’ of Christian life; this is practical advice. If Christianity is to be distinctive we have to deal with our difficulties in a way that reflects the love of God.
An alternative thread for adults, Love fulfils the law, explores Romans 13.8-14.
