Proper 25

Matthew 22.34-46

Context

We look at difficult and searching questions, directed at Jesus, that help us to wrestle with our own approaches to life skills.

Common thread: Law of love (Matthew 22.34-46)

The Pharisees set up a lawyer to test Jesus who, in response, gave an uncomplicated, memorable summary of the law that has been a central tenet of Christian teaching from the earliest days of the faith. Jesus turns the table on the Pharisees, however, silencing them with a question that appears to be as complicated as the summary of the law is lucid.

The gospel is Jesus is an alternative thread sermon drawn from 1 Thessalonians.
