Lent 2

Luke 13.31-35

Towards Jerusalem Week 3 of 7

Luke describes Jesus setting his face to Jerusalem. Over seven weeks we travel with Jesus on his journey from the Mount of Transfiguration to the glory of the cross.

Today, tomorrow

This week the Jerusalem journey becomes more clearly defined. In just a few verses we are given the picture. Jesus’ day-to-day work is clear but Jerusalem, and what will happen there, is the ultimate goal. The rather bleak picture is mitigated, however, by the beautiful image of the hen with her chicks. If what is demanded is difficult, we are not left without comfort and protection.

This week's reading, Luke 13.31-35, provides us with an opportunity to:

  • understand the determination required to keep journeying  (AAA & CYP)
  • think about seizing an opportunity (AAA & CYP)
  • understand that doing the right thing requires courage. (AAA & CYP).
