Advent 3

Isaiah 35.1-10

Images for all time - Week 3 of 5

An opportunity to discover metaphors in Isaiah and the Christmas gospels that reflect human experience, then and now.

Streams in the desert

During Advent, as we anticipate the coming of Jesus, we read from the Book of Isaiah ancient prophecies written for the people of Judah in which Christians have found images that shed light on the coming of the Messiah.

In today’s reading, Isaiah 35.1-10, we witness joy, creativity and hope emerge in the barren and chaotic landscape that is the wilderness.

This week’s reading provides an opportunity to:

  • engage with the distinctive nature of the Advent season (AAA & CYP)
  • identify things that bring life and hope (AAA & CYP)
  • think about how we might reclaim chaotic spaces (AAA & CYP)
  • encounter the biblical image of wilderness. (AAA & CYP)
