Proper 19

Matthew 18.21-35

Make judgements but don’t be judgemental (AAA)

Our judgements are rarely dispassionate. We often use them to assert our superiority or shore up our shaky self-esteem. Psychologists tell us they are also the way we conceal our shortcomings and weaknesses.

Forgiving and accepting (CYP)

We are all God’s servants, and only he can judge us. God chooses not to judge us, and expects us to do the same to others. God may well have redeemed the wrongdoing by turning it to good effect.

Additional resources

Forgiveness changes things (AAA)

Jesus taught his disciples not to judge. Here his teaching is expressed as a ‘do’ not a ‘don’t’. Do forgive.
