Advent 4

Luke 1.26-38

Context

In this last Sunday before Christmas we complete our preparations by reading of the visit of the angel Gabriel to Mary to announce that she will have a son. After all the weeks of active preparation and consideration, this week marks a chance to slow down and reflect on the enormity of what is about to happen: then we simply wait.

Common thread: Are you willing? (Luke 1.26-38)

The ROOTS resources this week look at the Annunciation to Mary described in Luke’s Gospel, considering her willingness to say ‘Yes’ to God and the implications of her response for our own Christian discipleship. We consider the importance of our own contribution and our role in God’s story.

An alternative thread, An improper event, within the Word and response material for adults, considers the unlikeliness of the story told in Luke 1.26-38 and the importance of thinking outside the box.

These resources were first published in 2008.
