Easter Day

Mark 16.1-8

Context

Easter Day! We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. This is the Church’s greatest festival, for today we recall and celebrate the unique events which founded our faith. But as we read the account in Mark’s Gospel this year, we notice that, far from being a cut and  dried affair, the encounter at the empty tomb was first and foremost one of consternation and perplexity.

Common thread – Covenant fulfilled (Mark 16.1-8)

The ROOTS resources this week look at the story of the empty tomb from Mark’s Gospel, and the disciples’ experience of fear and excitement as they were confronted with the possibilities of what had happened. An alternative thread for adults, I believe, draws on the readings from Isaiah, Acts and 1 Corinthians 15 to explore the further implications of the resurrection.

These resources were first published in Issue 40 March/April 2009.
