The lectionary provides a reading from the Book of Revelation throughout the weeks of Easter. Today it tends to be a text which troubles us, enigmatic and puzzling. Yet it was written to encourage the Christians of the Early Church as they struggled under persecution.
When we start to read Revelation carefully, we discover that, far from being the perplexing read we had feared, full of destruction and threats, much of it is hauntingly familiar. We may recognise familiar images and the words of hymns and songs, and discover that it was actually written for encouragement.
An alternative thread, I believe in you!, is based on John 20.19-31.
