Easter 4

Acts 2.42-47

Context

We move away from the Gospels this week to consider some of the fundamentals of Christian community life using a building metaphor. Much of this is drawn from 1 Peter but we start this week by providing a context for further work drawn from six verses of Acts 2.

Common thread: A firm foundation (Acts 2.42-47)

Firm foundations are critical for all building enterprises, both literal and metaphorical. In this Acts account of the life of the first Christian community, which grew up shortly after the resurrection we find fundamental clues in sharing and inclusion.

Rather unusually, the alternative thread this week, Group, association or community?, uses the same reading as it continues to wind its way through consecutive passages of the Acts of the Apostles.

These resources were first published in Issue 53 May/June 2011.
