An introduction to five essential agricultural Sundays

Reconnecting communities to the land

Approximately two-thirds of UK churches are in rural areas, with over 10,000 Church of England churches serving rural populations. Recognising the need to support these unique communities, and based on subscriber feedback, Roots has partnered with Rural Missions to create a series of resources that support worship and mission for special Agricultural Sundays, including Plough Sunday, Rogation Sunday and Lammas Sunday. These resources offer a creative way to link worship and prayer to the land, the harvest, animals, daily work, and the local community. While deeply rooted in centuries-old traditions, these Sundays can be made fresh for today, offering highly accessible and simple avenues for missional engagement to both rural and urban congregations. For urban churches, celebrating these days is a powerful way to reconnect with the rhythms of the seasons and acknowledge our dependence on the land and the farmers who supply our food.
