Choosing to rejoice
Luke 1.46b-55 (Magnificat)Mary sings a song, praising God for the coming of Jesus and giving specific details of what God has done and will do. This song is sung in response to the surprising news that Mary will become pregnant with the Messiah, and as she meets her cousin Elizabeth, who has also become pregnant in surprising circumstances.
Mary’s response to surprising and potentially difficult news is to praise God. How might we choose to rejoice when life surprises us? Could our words of praise reveal something of God working in our lives and the world around us?
