Epiphany 2

John 1.43-51

Context

The journey gathers pace as following his baptism, Jesus is pointed out by John and instantly picks up four followers. They ask the obvious question – ‘Where are you staying?’ The reply is by way of invitation ‘Come and see’ and will characterise the journey on which they have now embarked: nothing is predictable, but the wonders are remarkable as they slowly reveal the characteristics of the leader.

Common thread – Come and see (John 1.43-51)

The ROOTS resources this week explore the description of the call of the first disciples in John’s Gospel. We encounter a classic pattern of friendship evangelism, someone who is called brings along his friend. It is not necessarily a simple task however, for Nathanael does not respond without questions.

An alternative thread Your bodies are members of Christ, within the Word and Response material for adults draws on 1 Corinthians.

These resources were first published in Issue 39 January/February 2009.
