Proper 10

Amos 7.7-15

Context

We make a brief foray into the Old Testament this week and explore something of the nature of the prophet and of prophecy in preparation for exploring the work of the new apostles and the teaching of Jesus in forthcoming weeks.

Common thread – No ordinary call (Amos 7.7–15)

The ROOTS resources this week will not explore the beheading of John the Baptist in great detail! Instead, they will move to look at what the prophet Amos has to say about the origins of his vocation. We learn that he was simply ‘an ordinary bloke’ who was sent by God to prophesy to Israel. We too are called from our ordinary lives to follow God’s way.

An alternative thread

Count your blessings, marks the first in a series of notes on Ephesians.

These resources were first published in Issue 42 July/August 2009.
