Advent 2

Baruch 5.1-9

Context

As we continue to think about the significance for the Advent journey of places mentioned in the Hebrew Scriptures we come to think about Jerusalem.

Common thread – Place and longing (Baruch 5.1-9)

This week we consider the experience of exile and how, during the Exile, the Jews thought with longing about Jerusalem. They saw this as a wonderful place reflecting God’s glory. This poetic language of prophecy was able to sustain them in difficult times. We will think about this experience of longing, foreshadowing our Advent longing, and what can sustain us from Scripture and the traditions of our faith. An alternative thread for adults Not just celebrities is drawn from Luke 3.1-6.
