Advent 4

Micah 5.2-5a

Context

As we near the end of Advent we find that God is already there to surprise us. Having prepared a welcome home to Jerusalem, we discover that God has other plans and we must move to Bethlehem. It was not an important place, neither glamorous nor glorious. In fact, among the many prophecies relating to the Messiah, only a minor prophet has even mentioned it.

Common thread – The one of peace (Micah 5.2-5a)

Through a consideration of the words of the prophet Micah, we think about how the coming of Jesus was (and remains), in many ways, not really what is expected. An alternative thread for adults Believing the impossible is drawn from Luke 1.39-45.
