Epiphany 2

John 2.1-11

Context

Epiphany means ‘revelatory manifestation’. Today’s Gospel reading, from John, represents the third of three weeks of such revelations of Jesus. Jesus’ action at the wedding in Cana represents the first of John’s signs pointing to the extraordinary significance of Jesus.

Common thread – Overflowing (John 2.1-11)

The miracle at the wedding feast embodies an outpouring of God’s generosity. Jesus is compassionately concerned for the people he is with. He is fully present in that moment, providing plenty for all.

An alternative thread for adults, A ‘controverting’ community?, is drawn from 1 Corinthians 12.1-11.
