John 4.5-42Context
If last week’s conversation was with an insider who came in secret, this week’s is with an outsider, a woman and a Samaritan, who arrives boldly at the well in the middle of the day.
Common thread: Are you talking to me? (John 4.5-42)
This is an unlikely conversation and though we travel through Lent towards the inevitability of the cross, we must be open to the unpredictable and surprising, for we travel through the cross to the most unpredictable and surprising event of all. In the Samaritan woman, and her encounter with Jesus, we learn that secure respectability will not help us along the path.
