Proper 29 Christ the King
Matthew 25.31-46Context
Today, on the last Sunday of the Church year, we consider the Last Judgement as we read the challenging last verses of Matthew 25. This section of the Gospel immediately precedes the account of Jesus’ passion and death.
Common thread: King of love (Matthew 25.31-46)
We are challenged to account for our behaviour, at the very least, in today’s Gospel reading. While the text refers to ‘the nations’ gathered before the Son of Man in his glory, it does not require a great leap of imagination to understand that this is about what God requires of us.
An alternative thread, Resurrection king, looks at the Epistle reading, Ephesians 1.15-23.
