Advent 1
Isaiah 64.1-9Context
On the first Sunday in the Advent season, as we begin our preparation to celebrate the arrival of the Lord Jesus Christ at Christmas, we turn for three weeks to the Old Testament words of Isaiah, looking forward to the redemption of Israel.
Common thread: Waiting with courage (Isaiah 64.1-9)
Advent is a time of expectant waiting and today we are encouraged to explore how courage, resilience and patience are a difficult, yet crucial, part of the Christian experience. In the Book of Isaiah, which includes many allusions to the coming of the Messiah, we see the expectancy, hope and frustrations of those looking for the deliverance.
An alternative thread for adults, The end, draws on Mark 13.24-37.
