Present the reading

An interactive, colourful way to engage with the text of Romans 8.12-17

Drawing the Trinity

The Bible does not present us with a neat definition of the Trinity. In fact the Bible does not mention the Trinity. But the idea is there, and if we listen to it carefully, we can find the Trinity in the reading from Romans.

  • Invite three people, each with a different-coloured crayon, to stand beside the Venn diagram described in Prepare the space.
  • Allocate a person of the Trinity – Father, Son (Christ), Holy Spirit – to each crayon.
  • Ask someone who reads really well to proclaim the six verses slowly and clearly, and ask the people with the crayons to start colouring one section of the Venn diagram when they hear their person of the Trinity mentioned.
  • When the reading is over you will need to wait for the colouring-in to finish. The Christ section will be completed last.
  • Then, with a fat marker pen, draw round the intersecting parts of the Venn diagram.

This will give you a Triquetra, a strong, ancient Celtic symbol of the Trinity. It stands for the three persons of the Trinity in perfect relationship with each other, working together.
