John 6.1-21

Discovering John 6 – Week 1 of 5

Five weeks in which, through reading John’s account of the feeding of the five thousand and his teaching about the bread of life, we discover what it means to be a disciple.

Beginning

John’s account of the feeding of the five thousand marks the opening of a long reflection on the bread of life. This week the story begins with the sharing of bread and fish, offered by one boy for the good of many.

This week's reading, John 6.1-21, provides us with an opportunity to:

  • see some of the connections between Jesus and the prophets (AAA)
  • appreciate that Jesus cannot be boxed, pinned down, possessed by us (AAA)
  • connect Jesus with the expectations of the Old Testament (CYP)
  • engage with John’s version of the feeding of the five thousand (AAA & CYP)
  • focus on Jesus who provides (AAA & CYP).

These resources were first published in Issue 60 July/August.
