Last after Epiphany Transfiguration

Matthew 17.1-9

Context

Today we complete our consideration of wise and foolish responses to Jesus with another journey, the ascent of a ‘high mountain’ where Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James and John.

Common thread: Wise or foolish journey? (Matthew 17.1-9)

Today marks a way point where one journey, getting to know Jesus through the encounters of his early ministry, prepares us for another, towards the cross through Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday. On the mountain, the three disciples capture a stunning revelation of Jesus’ identity, to support them through the coming trials.

An alternative thread for adults, Responding to holiness, is based on Psalm 99.
