Matthew 10.40-42Context
This week we return to the Lectionary’s ‘ordinary time’ and we re-enter Matthew, the Gospel of Year A, at the end of chapter 10. We find ourselves in the rather bizarre position of hearing the very end of a long passage of instructions to the disciples as Jesus sends them out. We do not hear the rest of the instructions, so we must make the best we can of this!
Common thread: Welcoming community
This teaching about being welcoming is both challenging and comforting. Giving a welcome to people doesn’t seem too difficult – or does it? Are we really able to welcome everyone?
An alternative thread for adults, Alive to God in Christ, draws on Romans 6.12-23.
