Busy market week

2 - 8 July 2011

Proper 9

Matthew 11.16-19,25-30

Context

Last week we recommenced our chronological reading through Matthew’s Gospel and this continues throughout the coming weeks. In this week’s verses, two very contrasting passages are explored as complementary images for discipleship.

Common thread: Pace setter (Matthew 11.16-19,25-30)

We are called to engage with the challenges of the marketplace but we are also offered the calm and restful way. How then do these two ideas fit together and how do we learn from Jesus the pace setter in these contexts?

An alternative thread for adults, The divided self, is based on Romans 7.15-25a.

These resources were first published in Issue 54 July/August 2011.
