Proper 17

James 1.17-27

Doers of the Word - Week 1 of 5

Five weeks in which we use the Letter of James to celebrate God’s gifts and consider our response.

Gratitude

We begin a five-week consideration of the Letter of James, a piece of early Christian writing deeply rooted in Jewish faith and practice. This week we explore the importance of gratitude.

This week's reading, James 1.17-27, provides us with an opportunity to:

  • learn a bit more about James, ‘the Lord’s brother’ (Galatians 1.19) (AAA & CYP)
  • be aware of Jewish Christianity rooted in a deep sense of gratitude to God (AAA & CYP)
  • explore how we might develop an attitude of gratitude (AAA & CYP).

These resources were first published in Issue 61 September/October 2012. Extracts of these resources have since been republished in the Methodist Bible Month 2017 magazine.
