Five weeks in which, through reading John’s account of the feeding of the five thousand and his teaching about the bread of life, we discover what it means to be a disciple.
For Jesus, the words ‘those who eat my flesh and drink my blood’ are a way of expressing a sign of willingness to embody God in our words and actions. Jesus invites us to live our lives as an expression of God’s abundant presence in the world: ‘The one who eats this bread will live forever.’
This week’s reading, John 6.51-58, provides an opportunity to:
reflect on the potential of hospitality; God drawing us in (AAA)
explore the metaphor of flesh and blood (AAA)
focus on Jesus’ teaching about eternal life (AAA)
explore the deep significance of hospitality (AAA & CYP)
celebrate Jesus, the living bread (CYP).
These resources were first published in Issue 60 July/August 2012.
