Discovering John 6 – Week 3 of 5

Five weeks in which, through reading John’s account of the feeding of the five thousand and his teaching about the bread of life, we discover what it means to be a disciple.

Learning

The conversation between Jesus and the crowd continues. He is challenged. Is he not just the son of the carpenter? He continues to speak of the bread: ‘Whoever eats of this bread will live for ever.’

This week's reading, John 6.35,41-51, provides an opportunity to:

  • become familiar with Jesus’ words ‘I am the bread of life’
  • make connections between the story of Elijah and Jesus’ claim to be ‘the bread of life’
  • affirm the importance of being able to ask questions – it is all right to have doubts.

These resources were first published in Issue 60 July/August 2012.
