Matthew 16.13-20

Holding on and letting go - Week 1 of 5

Five weeks in which we consider how we help and hinder each other in our response to the gospel. Read more about the distinctive nature of Matthew’s writing about Jesus found in the central chapters of the Gospel.

Speaking

Peter proclaims Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. Jesus tells Peter that he is the rock on which the Church will be built.

This week’s reading, Matthew 16.13-20, provides an opportunity to:

  • consider our response to the question, ‘Who do you say I am?’ (AAA & CYP)
  • explore the metaphor of being a ‘key holder’ (AAA & CYP)
  • reflect on Jesus’ order not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah. (AAA & CYP)
