Epiphany 3

Mark 1.14-20

Context

The lectionary readings continue to help us reflect on the call of the disciples at the opening of Jesus’ ministry, this time with a reading from the first chapter of Mark’s Gospel. We continue to discover the nature of Jesus and of his call, focusing particularly today on the message he presents.

Common thread – The message matters (Mark 1.14-20)

The ROOTS resources this week help us to identify the urgency of the message of repentance which Jesus presents to those whom he invites to follow him. To appreciate this, we look at the contrast with the response of Jonah to the commission and message with which he is entrusted by God.

An alternative thread

Giving up everything for the kingdom, within the Word and Response material for adults explores Paul’s writing to the Corinthians.

These resources were first published in Issue 39 January/February 2009.
