Proper 18

Proverbs 22.1–2,8-9,22-23

Context

Opening the Book of Proverbs can be quite daunting: the proverbs come thick and fast, pithy and often amazingly relevant to our modern lives. So take time with these weeks of study, and enjoy the words that echo down the millennia. You may find reading them in the Good News Bible helps, as it reflects the humour found in the original text.

Common thread – Wise words (Proverbs 22.1–2, 8–9, 22–23)

The ROOTS resources this week open up the book of Proverbs, providing the opportunity, first of all, to discover what constitutes a proverb and then the ways in which they can help us to reflect the goodness and justice of God.

These resources were first published in Issue 43 September/October 2009.
