Pentecost

Romans 8.14-17

Context

We reach the end of the Easter season this week by celebrating the Feast of Pentecost, which marks the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the first disciples gathered in Jerusalem. This year we focus on the Gospel reading for Pentecost which features Jesus’ teaching to his disciples after the Last Supper, when he describes some of the characteristics of the Spirit who will come to them.

Common thread – Empowering Spirit (John 14.8-17,(25-27))

This week we hear many reassuring and comforting phrases that serve to encourage us and linger in the memory. We consider how we discern the voice of the Lord, and the Holy Spirit who empowers us in our judgement making.

An alternative thread for adults, No enthusiasts here please, draws on Acts 2.1-21.
