Easter 7

Revelation 22.12-14,16-17,20-21

Context

This week, the final week of Eastertide, in which we look forward to the coming of the Spirit at Pentecost, we read selected verses from the last chapter of the Book of Revelation. The excision from the text of all that is unpleasant reflects, we hope, the beauty of what it will be like when Jesus comes!

Common thread – Grace for all (Revelation 22.12-14,16-17,20-21)

This week we are reassured by a promise that Jesus will come to us, expressed in the glorious language we remember from Advent. The readings of this last week of Easter always point to the coming of the Spirit and help us to look forward to next week, the Feast of Pentecost. We are reminded that this gift is for all, anyone who wishes to come and follow him. ‘Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!’

An alternative thread for adults, An answer to his prayer, explores John 17.20-26.

These resources were first published in Issue 47 May/June 2010.
