Kingdom of currency

Matthew 22.15-22

Living every day as first and last
- Week 1 of 6

Six weeks in which we recognise the urgency of the gospel message, reading Matthew’s uncompromising words as we approach the celebration of Christ the King. In Adult & All Age we read the Gospel alongside Paul’s first letter to the emerging church in Thessalonica.

Kingdom currency

Jesus is confronted by a group intent on trapping him by using a Roman coin to test his allegiances. Jesus turns the tables by restructuring the question. In 1 Thessalonians we find Paul offering love and encouragement to the persecuted followers of Christ in Thessalonica.

This week’s reading, Matthew 22.15-22, provides an opportunity to:

  • learn about the Roman world in which the New Testament emerged (AAA & CYP)
  • hear the call to adopt kingdom currency in our everyday lives (AAA & CYP)
  • consider how to be true to God’s values while living in today’s world (AAA & CYP)
  • explore the value of money compared to things that are beyond price. (AAA & CYP)
